More about Microsoft Word

Everyone knows that Microsoft Word is for working with text: writing it, editing it, making it look good by formatting it. But in addition to typing, "highlight", "cut", "copy", "paste", "transfer" and other functions, including font selection, color and size, spell checking and other basic actions, Word provides the following advanced functions and features:

  • "Delete formatting" - completely clears formatting in the selected snippet or in the entire text, bringing it to a "clean" appearance;
  • use keyboard shortcuts for quick actions;
  • choose different paste options (retaining the original formatting, merging the formatting, or clearing the formatting);
  • change the font, color and size parameters for selected objects, not only for the whole document;
  • change the case of an already created text without having to rewrite the fragment anew;
  • underline, strikethrough, italicize, bold, semiboldface, etc;
  • add superscript or subscript text;
  • create bulleted, numbered, and tiered lists, modify their appearance, and use various bullets;
  • adjust paragraphs, line spacing, alignment, and other basic formatting options;
  • draw and edit tables - you'll have a wide set of tools for working with tables;
  • work with styles;
  • use the "Replace" function - allows you to replace a word or phrase throughout the text with a given variant;
  • use and edit ready-made templates (title page, resume, statement, etc.);
  • to assemble the automatic table of contents;
  • add formulas, symbols, express blocks, design elements, small media files, hyperlinks, cross-references, captions, figures, effects, diagrams, etc;
  • automatically sort lists alphabetically;
  • make the layout of web pages and paper formats (the functionality for this in Word is not the most convenient, but it is available);
  • add headers and page numbering;
  • change the appearance of the document using the tools in the Design menu;
  • change the background, fill and fill options (not necessarily making it monochrome or gradient);
  • add footnotes, references and an automatically generated reference list (the user only needs to enter the data, the program itself will bring them to the specified form);
  • add captions to the inserted images and multimedia in the desired form;
  • use the tools of the "Subject index" menu;
  • work with any links and make them look good;
  • organizing newsletters, preparing text for both electronic and paper newsletters;
  • review documents, find synonyms for the specified words, customize the spell-check menu, add dictionaries, automatically correct errors and typos, etc;
  • get statistics of the whole document or a selected fragment (number of characters with and without spaces, words, lines, paragraphs, pages);
  • translate the selected fragments into the specified language;
  • work with notes and comments;
  • evaluate the appearance of the document in the view mode;
  • scale documents;
  • work with several documents simultaneously;
  • automate the most frequently performed tasks (Macros menu);
  • in the "Add-ons" menu you can find additional utilities and extensions to add new functions and features.

Microsoft Word is easy and for the average user (all the basic functions are placed on the main screen and visible at a glance), and for a professional editor, proofreader, author or DTP - necessary tools can be put on the quick access panel or in the menu of hot keys and call them with one click. In Word, you can create simple texts with minimal formatting and entire books with a full layout, adding images, footnotes, table of contents, page numbering, different fonts and any other additional objects. Its ease of use, together with its wide range of functions, makes MS Word one of the most popular text editors.
