Applications for editing DOCX files on Android

To work with DOCX files on Windows-based devices, there is a basic set of programs that work seamlessly with this type of document.

On the Android mobile operating system, things are a bit more complicated - most applications only allow viewing of files. Below is a list of applications with the ability to edit and subsequently send files.

Microsoft Word

The most popular text editor that introduced the concept of a "text file" that can be created and edited. It has a binary format that provides a specific structure and document extension.

Microsoft Word for Android is included in the Office suite and was released in 2013. For personal use, the suite became free in 2014, but the option to subscribe remains if the user needs advanced functionality.

To open ".docx" documents with the Microsoft Word application, you will need to:

• download and install the application;
• when you first launch it, read and agree to the user agreement;
• create an account or log in with existing data;
• on the main screen, select the "Open" tab in the bottom menu;
• in the presented list, specify the source from which the source will be loaded: OneDrive, from the phone, Google Drive, SD card;
• for example, if the file is stored on Google Drive, click "Browse";
• the application will analyze the text files in the root directory of the drive, and then provide a list of documents;
• click on the thumbnail of the document and wait for it to load;
• the file is ready for editing.

The navigation in the view window is intuitive, with a touch screen instead of a cursor. To save after editing, press the three-dot icon in the top right corner and select "Save/Save as".

If necessary, the file can be attached as an attachment and then sent via messengers or email clients.

Google Docs

A free online editor created by Google as a result of the merger of Writely and Spreadsheets services. In the future, the Quickoffice utility was used to expand the functional capabilities, which became the basis for the mobile application for Android and iOS released in 2014.

To edit a ".docx" file using the Google Docs application, you need to:

• download and install the application from Google Play;
• when first launched, the utility will open Google Drive with a list of files stored on it;
• to copy the source file, you can use the special mobile application, the web version, or directly send it to the drive;
• to transfer a file, find it using the file manager on the smartphone, select it in the messenger or in the downloaded files in the browser, click "Share";
• then select "Drive", enter a name, and click save;
• after that, go to the Google Docs application, find the file in the root folder, and open it;
• the application is ready for further work.

Documents are automatically saved on Google Drive during editing. To further transfer it, click on the dropdown menu icon in the top menu, then select "Access and export", then "Send a copy", select the "Word (.docx)" format, and specify the recipient in the messenger or attach it as an attachment to an email.

WPS Office

An office suite developed by Kingsoft, a Chinese company, in 1989. Until 2014, it was called Kingsoft Office. It includes programs for working with Word, Excel, and PDF documents for both Windows computers and mobile devices running on Android and iOS. It is a full-fledged alternative to Microsoft Office.

To view and edit files, you will need:

• download and install the application from our website;
• when launching it, accept the terms of use of the utility;
• register or log into WPS Office through a Google/Facebook account;
• agree to use a free trial period for 15 days;
• allow the application access to photos, multimedia, and files on the device;
• then go to the "Files" tab in the bottom menu to specify the source;
• for example, to download from the file system of the smartphone or tablet, click "Device", and then select the folder where the source files are stored;
• open the file, click "Mobile View" in the bottom menu;
• if you need to edit the text, press and hold on the screen for 2 seconds, select "Edit" from the dropdown menu;
• after completing the work, click "Done" in the upper left corner, and then the icon in the form of a folder next to it.

The application supports file transfer and sending to a computer. For this, the desktop version of the program must be installed on the desktop device or laptop.

If you need to upload text or other documents from messengers, click "Files" in the tab and select "Received from other applications". The utility will check for similar documents and display them as a list.

Word Office

A free application for reading and editing Word, Excel, and Powerpoint compatible documents. Developed in 2020 by Begamob, a Vietnamese company. Editing is only available in the premium version, with a cost of 169 rubles per month for Russia. A free trial period of 7 days is available.

To work with the Word Office application, you will need to:

• download and install the program;
• when launching it, agree to access the internal storage;
• there will be a check for compatible documents in the internal memory of the device;
• if files are found, they will be displayed in a list below;
• select the desired document, click on the blue pen icon in the upper right corner of the screen, and then on "Watch Ads to Unlock";
• the editing mode is unlocked, and you can continue working.

To save the file, you need to bring up the dropdown menu in the top right corner and click "Save". In the same menu, you can quickly send the file to Google Drive or to a person in the address book via messaging.

MojOffice Documents

A mobile application for reading and editing text files in the DOCX format and spreadsheets in the XLSX format. Supports viewing PDF documents. The application was released in 2016 by a Russian company based in Moscow.

Working with files using MojOffice Documents is as follows:

• download and install the application on your smartphone/tablet;
• when you first launch it, go through a quick setup from the developer;
• in the cloud storage section, you can immediately add Google Drive and Yandex.Disk;
• to add a cloud, select the corresponding item, checkmark full access for creating/editing documents, click next;
• on the main application screen, click "Open document" and select the source;
• for example, the "This device" option, navigate to the folder with the file, and upload it;
• go to the desired section of the text and perform editing;
• to save the document, click the dropdown menu icon in the top right corner of the screen, then click "File" and "Save".

To send the document, click "Share a copy" in the same menu, then select the recipient from the list of applications: Drive, Gmail, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc.

The program has a pleasant and simple design without unnecessary details. The editing window contains all the basic functions for working with Word-compatible documents. It works perfectly, with no crashes or freezes.

Word Office - Docx reader

A free utility for reading and editing files with the extension ".docx". In the free version, only reading is available, but for working with one file, you can view an embedded ad block, and the feature will be unlocked. The cost of the premium version for Russia is 599 rubles per month.

The setup process for the Word Office - Docx reader application consists of several stages:

1. Download and install the utility.
2. When launched, agree to access the internal storage.
3. Check for compatible documents in the internal storage of the device.
4. If files are found, they will be displayed in a list below.
5. Select the desired document, click on the blue pen icon in the upper right corner of the screen, and then on "Watch Ads to Unlock".

A free application with premium features for working with MS Office, PowerPoint, and Excel compatible files. The advanced version includes access to editing PDF documents and viewing JPEG, PNG, WMF/EMF diagrams. The cost for Russia is 179 rubles per month.

The preparation process for the Smart Office - Doc & PDF Editor application is as follows:

• Download and install the application on your Android device;
• Allow access to photos, multimedia, and files stored on internal memory;
• Go through a quick tutorial on working with the application from the developer;
• Select "Let's get started using SmartOffice", which gives access to the regular version of the utility;
• Select the storage location for the ".docx" format document;
• If the file is in the cloud, connect Google Drive, DropBox, or OneDrive;
• In the view window, select the location in the text, touch the screen, and edit.

To save the edited document, use the corresponding icons in the top menu of the editing window. In the same menu, you can send the file to commonly used messengers, email clients, and other text editors.
